[RC] Grasslands - Darolyn Butler-Dial

Hi All,
Quick report: FIRST a big thank you for all who worked so hard making this
ride happen. Sue Phillips & Vonita bore the brunt, but there were numerous
other folks that worked long hard hours, contributed food, time, $$$,
awards, etc. It looked like it was going to be a classy event with a great
turn out... 50 or more for a 100 miler in TEXAS, unheard of... then Ole Man
Winter had his way with us. Dropped temperatures to freezing AND dropped
that white stuff that's just about foreign to riders down here. WEIRDDDD!!!
There was still as much as 4 inches of snow on the trail in places on ride
day. Crews & riders waded in ankle deep slop much of the day at the base
camp. Very strange to see a normally dry sandy course, in the worst of
times, holding this much water.

I predicted the night before that only about 50% of the starters (39) would
finish... now, since we started 6 here from Cypress Trails... guess how many
finished... sometimes I hate to be right... yeah 3 of them, & unfortunately
I was not one of them... however, Brittany Dial/DJB Cielo, Laura
Stoicescu/DJB Seterah Banoo, and Kanako Hayashi/DJB Wersus had a marvelous
day. Kanako & Brit placed 5/6 & tiny little Kanako on tiny little Wersus
won the FEI Best Condition award. Yes, for inquiring minds, they were all
BAREFOOT and what a day to be Barefoot. No worry about lost shoes & the
traction seemed to be just as good, if not better, than the shod horses.

Alyx Luck had an incredible day as she finished on the muddy, sloppy, yucky
course, in possibly a course record, slightly under 9 hours & took home the
AERC BC award to boot. Cognates to both of these ladies.

Our southern horses were happy to return to the south & I will report to all
the "barefoot" fans that their feet looked lovely, absolutely no wear shown
for the 100 miles that they did. & remember, this is not a regular
"farrier" trim, this is a physiological correct trim & they are all living a
natural lifestyle, which means a proper amount of movement & having moisture
on their feet in a daily fashion.... (no hoof oils either).
