RE: Who better to ask re: saddle fit?

Arabs can be very different from one line to the next. No breed is a
one-size fits all and Arabs can be as hard to fit as any. One of my Arab
geldings goes very well in a semi-quarter tree. My purebred Arab mare is so
flat backed with ribs well-sprung that she needs a wide tree and my 1/2 Arab
gelding needs an extra-extra wide tree (he has very high withers and is very
well-sprung through the ribs). Some Arabs are very narrow. The point being
your horse needs to be fit by someone that knows what they are doing. Even
if you are only going for a pleasure ride. You would not go for a pleasure
walk in a pair of shoes two sizes too small (and still call it a pleasure).
You might consider a Wintec saddle with a changeable gullet (so it fits more
than one horse). They are reasonably priced and very good saddles for the
cost. Marilyn

Mary Pryde wewantaranch@aol.com
Who better to ask regarding saddle fit as I saddle shop than the people
who sit in them for hours each day? I can't afford to make a mistake in
buying the wrong saddle. I've already done that! Last fall, I had an
accident with my 3 year old Arabian gelding that sent me to the hospital
with a shattered wrist/arm...all because of a poor fitting saddle (Quarter
horse tree on an arabian back) YES, I know it is my own fault! We are
looking for a saddle that will fit our 15.2 hand Arabian and allow us to
pleasure/trail ride with everyone involved comfortable. Any information
on tree fit, etc. would be appreciated. THANK YOU! (NOTE: I have
champagne taste on a beer budget).
