Bob Morris spent the time to go through his collection of year books and has
sent in the (currently authoritative) information on national champions
1976-1991 (I already had 1992-1998).  I'm still in need of 1999-2001, but
that's likely easy to get.

pretty interesting. you can at least see when things changed (tho not why:)
