Re: [RC] [RC] Finish Line question for LD Riders - Howard Bramhall

Here's the deal on the LD. Most LD riders don't want you to change a thing.
I really do believe that. I think they want things to stand as they are,
and, maybe, do something about the mileage thing (like get credit for it),
but I don't want to be the one to open that can of worms. Yea, I know they
get LD mileage credit, but, wouldn't it be cool to include it all as a total
mileage thing? 25's, 50's, 100's = total mileage. Yea, in my dreams.

I feel the LD should mimic the 50 and 100 mile true endurance rides. The LD
should be exactly the same as a 50 miler just as the 50 miler is exactly the
same as a 100 (except for the completion times). Get rid of this silly
heart rate thing all together. It only confuses the head vet when he has to
try and explain the parameters, at the pre-ride meeting. 64 for everything
except for the 60 at the finish of the LD ride, which is your finish line
(even though you don't really have a finish line) in the LD. Now, come on,
if we want these folks to graduate to the 50 miler or more, let's make it
exactly like the 50 mile ride. Have a finish line, make the darn thing fun
(it already is). Make the LD inclusive, not exclusive. Down here in the
Southeast, without the LD, ride managers would end up charging you double
for the 50 mile ride or the 100. There's no doubt about it; the math is
quite simple and easy to figure.

Making the 60 heart rate your finish line does not slow any one down in the
25 miler. It just makes them run a bit differently, but the times, they are
already quite fast, and won't change at all if you eliminate the silly heart
rate. LD's aren't the only fast run here; so are the 50's. Geeezz, these
days, so are the hundreds. Get rid of the heart rate as a finish line. It
only makes the LD group different, and they don't really want to be all that
different. And, when you see them at your next ride, thank them, for paying
a heck of a lot more, per mile, than what you're paying. I love the LD
    rider!

    cya,
    Howard
