    Anything with a shank is NOT a snaffle regardless of what mouthpiece it has.
    It is a curb. 
    If your horse gets uncomfortable with a single jointed snaffle, as many
    Arabs do, you could try a French link snaffle. These have a small piece in
    the middle-three joints and tend to lay flat on the tongue. Dr. Bristol's
    are different, the piece in the middle lies at a 90 degree angle to the
    other pieces making it more harsh. Myler comfort snaffles work well with
    horses that hate regular snaffles as well. They don't fold and poke the roof
    of the mouth.  If your horse needs tongue relief you can get a ported
    snaffle by Myler, again no shanks, so it is a snaffle.
