RE: [RC] Advice for Horse with Hard Mouth - Linda Cowles

    >> The problem is that he has the hardest mouth. He braces his jaw against
    the bit
and steering him is a nightmare. Attempting to pick up contact just makes
    him
    go faster.

You've gotten some good advice... something elks to check is how this bit
    fits his mouth.

The roof of some horses mouths are shallow. If his is, any kind of a jointed
snaffle or curb may be uncomfortable for him. To check, get him comfortable
with having your hand in his mouth; washing them with apple juice and giving
him gum massages help. Then bit him up and place a finger in his mouth while
you work the bit... see what it does...

I had a mare with a very shallow mouth and a mullein mouth Pelham worked
great. It's an unjointed snaffle - a bar - with a short shank.
