Re: [RC] [Guest] English-style Saddle for Short-backed horse - Jeanne Slominski

    Karen,

I have two Morgans. Only saddle I have found to work for my boys and I is the SR Enduro saddle. I have one for each horse. Naturally, they have different backs. <VBG> Steve makes the saddles to order. They are a bit pricey, but well worth the money. Plus, the saddles can be refitted as your horse's back changes shape - weight loss or gain, muscling up, etc.    http://www.endurance.net/srsaddle/

    Good luck - Jeanne

Hi! I've posted guest messages before, one I think about saddles. But I
still haven't found "the one". I have a 14.3 hand Morgan mare who is
extremely short backed. Almost every single saddle I've had on her slides
forward during a ride - and because she has a lot of rotation in her
shoulder, this inevitable restricts the shoulders.

I did try an Arabian Saddle company Solstice model on her which seemed to
work pretty well; unfortunatly, she got a minor injury while I had one on
trial and I only got one short ride in it. I didn't like that model for
myself, but would be willing to try a different model from the same company.

Also tried a Reactor Panel saddle - she didn't seem to like that at all.
Earlier this summer, when she was nice and fice, I bought a used County
Drespri that seemed to fit her better than anything else I've put on her
back. The saddle is just OK for me. I would also consider trying another
    County model.

Right now, she is in my old Wintec, as she has gained some weight and lost
some condition while we were building our own barn. Not a huge fan of this
saddle for this horse, but it works well enough for the work we are doing
now. I'm not going to get a new saddle until she loses weight, but was
wondering if anyone had some suggestions for different models I should try.
That way, I can keep an eye out for used models while I get her back in
shape. Right now, I have her in the XW gullet plate, but when she was in
good shape, she was more like a MW or a W (the County Drepri was a wide
tree, and it really seemed to fit her well).

I'm starting to wonder if it is going to be possible to find something that
really fits her well AND that I like also. Any suggestions?

FYI, I plan on doing CTR with her next summer, possibly a few limited
    distance endurance rides.
