    The more I think about it, the more I think it's related not to turn out but
    diet.
    
    I don't know of any Mustangs with this problem, but they're used to a very
    sparse diet and are very good at utilizing what they're fed.
    
    Arabs and Thoroughbreds are more prone to entrolyths (sp?) and do better on
    a low protein, high fat diet (if they're being worked, of course).
    Quarterhorses do better on a higher fat, higher protein feed (the same feed
    which would make my Arab loopier than a hummingbird on crack).  Each horse
    should have it's diet balanced for it's particular metabolism and it's work
    load.
    
    Perhaps these stinky horses are not being worked as much as they're being
    fed?  Or the feed is not being utilized as well as it could and is causing
    <dare I say it> waxy build up. . .
