Re: [RC] Start - Annie George

Hi, My example stated no distance, in fact I did say that was a very gray area. My point is that, I felt this argument all started because someone wanted Karen's head on a platter, there was some very nasty remarks. And that the entire sport seems to be becoming rather ungracious, in many areas, and we can not rule up every little thing. I also stated that I know greedy RM's, and that Duck is NOT one of them.  As for the records, I don't think I know anyone who doesn't have some error in the official records, when we look at them we do so realizing that. I think The office, most of our RM's, the Duck and Karen all do the best they can. I just see no need to kill somebody over something so minor. Which is not at all to say that I don't think the rules, big or small are not important. This past year I have seen some really awful stuff going on at rides, I complain to the RM. If they don't seem to care or want to ignore it, I just don't go to those rides any more. You must admit that  Karen  did take a pretty good thrashing at the beginning of all this. And it did seem to me to be very personal.   We all tend to defend our friends. No apologies for that.     Now I have what I consider a REAL problem, I have a huge 6' diamond back rattlesnake under my barn. He is quite comfortable, and shows no interest in wanting out.  I have explained to him that he cannot live here, but he is not listening.  So that is my project for the day, His Highness is moving!      The rest of you go ride your horse.  Annie G.                   Anne George Saddlery   www.vtc.net/~ageorge

Annie, no offense but I think you've got it backwards.  It seems that
those who want these starts recorded are people who do *not* know the
people involved, and those who are defending the practice are defending
it because they are very fond of the people involved.  It's no better to
defend something wrong because you are a good friend of a nice person who
is involved than to go on a personal vendetta against an enemy.

    I don't want anyone's head on a platter. I don't want a long tedious
"decision" from the P&G committee makes these people feel bad. I'd just
like a statement from AERC like Jackie said, "clarifying" rules we
already have so that everyone will be running things the same.

Let's use your example, a person goes out one mile on the 2nd day of a
multi-day and pulls. Here's what I'd like to see. The ride manager is
*welcome* to refund the part of their entry that was his, but go ahead
and list them as a starter and pay AERC. Yes, the person got a pull on
their record and the ride had one more "did not finish" listed.  When I
look at the records I see, "hmm, I guess it does wear on horses to go day
after day" and I'll figure that in to my reasoning if I plan to do a
    multi-day someday.

The person gets a pull.  If they value their completion record next time
they may be a little more conservative in deciding whether to start that
day.  If you knew something was wrong one mile down the trail...did you
not know something was wrong in warm up?  No big deal...just accurate
    record keeping all around.

    Angie
