[RC] Crupper - Rides 2 Far

    > How do you train a horse to accept a crupper?

I expected it to be a big deal, and after starting at least 10 horses
with them have yet to find one who thinks it's a big deal. The only time
I've ever had them get squirrely is when it's tight on the flat. The
crupper should be a little loose on the flat, then when they tuck to go
down a hill it will tighten up. If your saddle slides forward and it's
tight when you get to the bottom of the hill, readjust the tack before
    going on.

I like to ride with one loose for awhile before I adjust it where it can
tighten up. After that, just make really sure to protect the sensitive
skin under the tail. Keep crusty stuff off the crupper (sweat, manure,
etc). and clean off the area under the tail. I like the OF neoprene
crupper best. I've not had any rubs from it, but have with leather.
