RE: : RC: EPM Vaccine

<<does anyone have any info. on the EPM vaccine?
efficacy? possible reactions? is it even worth considering?

thanks

Ft. Dodge used to have the results of their study on their website. Not
sure if it is still there, but what they told me is that because no one
knows what makes one horse have "clinical" EPM and another not (when both
test positive) they can not conclusively prove that it is the vaccine that
is keeping the test horses from active EPM, but that they are convinced it
is.

In any event, I did vaccinate (eight of them). No side effects and no EPM,
whether because of the vaccine or not.

It was worth it to me after dealing with an EPM horse for a year. The cost
of the vaccine (around $40 per horse with a booster in two weeks and annual
thereafter) was nothing compared to the cost of treating the one horse with
EPM. Not to mention having to watch him go through it. Hope this helps.
