Your post to Ridecamp (ridecamp@endurance.net) was rejected
for one of the following reasons:

1. You are not a registered subscriber to Ridecamp. If this is the
case, you may register at http://www.endurance.net/RideCamp or
you may use the Guest form which is also available at
http://www.endurance.net/RideCamp/

2. You are a registered subscriber, but the email address in the
Sender/ReplyTo field of your message does not EXACTLY match your
subscription email address. (e.g. fast@horse.com vs fast@mail.horse.com)

3. You may have been removed from the list. If your server is rejecting
email because of a full mailbox or technical difficulties, the message
bounces back to the Ridecamp server as 'not able to deliver this message'.
After several unsuccessful attempts to deliver messages, the Ridecamp
software will automatically remove the 'bad' email address from the
list. If you suspect that this is the case, you may go to the Registered
Ridecamp Subscriber form available at http://www.endurance.net/RideCamp/
and re-subscribe.

Dear Leigh,

Eldonian was a long-time British hardware and saddle manufacturer in
Walsall that went out of business about 20 years ago. Currently the name has
been bought and a limited number of hardware items (bits) are being produced
under the Eldonian name. I don't know if they are producing any more leather
goods or saddlery at this time.

Your saddle sounds like a garden variety British made saddle, with Beaufort
being the model name and Eldonian being the manufacturer or marketing agent
at the time. Saddle value depends on several things:

1. Geographic region in which you live if you plan to sell it locally

2. Size (width)of tree for horse and length of seat for rider: are those
sizes going to fit intended customers needs and today's horses sizes?

3. Condition of saddle in general (well cared for? or needing
repairs?)Repairs of any type if done correctly are expensive, which would
have to be factored into the selling price

4. Will the saddle be sold on consigment where you have to give a portion of
the selling price to a third party? You would then receive less for the
saddle.

5. Does the saddle have quality fittings? and are they again the size for
people's needs today? If the fittings are junky, it may be better to leave
them off, lest they denigrate the saddle's overall quality if the saddle is
in good shape.

Check local tack shops to see what is selling for how much in your area.
Where there is a glut of saddlery, the price is less. If the saddle is sized
for TB's, it will severely limit your customer base, unless everyone in your
area rides that type of horse. Your saddle is not of the type that would
warrent national advertising, as there is nothing to particularly recommend
it, so it will most likely wind up in your local area for sale.

Your best bet is to sell it privately to a person who is looking for that
type of saddle, but you may have to wait a bit for the perfect customer to
come along. You may want to post it on the internet also.

Do your homework to answer my questions, and a little bit of shine
(non-lacquered) will go a long way to raise the price you receive for it.

Leigh Gowdy-King arthur.king@sympatico.ca
I recently acquired a close contact huntseat saddle, 17", square cantle,
no knee rolls. On the very underneath part on the horse side is an
embossed emblem that has "Beaufort" with" Elodonian" in script above it
and " Walsall, London and New York " around it. Being a computer rookie, I
can't seem to find any information on this make and model, and I want to
find out it's value. TIA Leigh
