Question on wool saddle cover

Hi all -

I splurged and bought a full english wool saddle cover
- it's gorgeous and makes me want to try riding
"nekked" some dark nite : - )

I have a couple questions:

1. Would riding in it in the rain be a big mistake? I
have images of it becoming a 30 lb sodden lumpy
uncomfortable hunk of wool when it gets rain drenched

2. Does anyone leave the stirrup leathers against the
saddle (under the wool cover) so the stirrups stick
out of the bottom opening, or do you cut slits in the
wool near the stirrup hangers so the leathers are
sitting on top of the wool cover?

Thanks,
Kristi
