Jonni: I had brought a lot of duct tape with me to the ride, but then
ended up hardly using any of it. It was a lot easier to foam the boots on
without a heel strap and leave them on for two weeks at a time. I think it
all depends on your perspective. I didn't have anybody to help me with
putting boots on or off (my crew has yet to put an easyboot on or take one
off, he's great for lots of other things, but that ain't one of 'em), so I
thought it was great that I didn't have to worry about their feet getting
full of poop every night if the boots were off. The two boots that I had
foamed on at the start in St. Joseph stayed on thru all the mud, even
without a heelstrap. By the end of the ride lots of other people were
doing it the same way, Jim Baldwin, Terry Nance, Dorothy Sue. When I came
home I didn't even take their foamed on boots off for a couple of days, but
when I finally did all 8 feet looked great and you'd never know either
horse did anything all summer (just 19 50's each is all).

I think that even if I would have had four horses alternating I would have
kept the boots foamed on for a couple of weeks at a time, so I wouldn't
have had to keep cleaning that many feet out every day.
