Mayhaps someone else familiar with the story can fill in the exact names, but I know one very prominent early Arabian breeder in the Midwest (I think it was Doc Munson, but someone correct me if I'm wrong) rode one of the very prominent Arabian stallions of the era into a river with a tiedown, and the horse drowned.
