RE: WorldCup2001

just a (little) bit on this from me. I think the UAE guys are "getting it"
pretty well at this point - from what I saw. There was a definite home
court advantage b/c they are training there, but if you look at Sh. Mohamed
bin Rashid al Maktoum's ride, finished 7th - is horse was tired, but looked
good, consistency through the ride, at each of the gates moving up in
placing but holding to a steady pacing. It was a good example of how to
ride that kind of terain I think.

johnt
(p.s. at the "giants ride" (or Emirates Cup) which was going on the first
day I was there, Sh. Mohamed was on Nina's Goat, and did a metabolic pull
late in the race (like maybe gate 4?) but he started slow (waiting 4-5
minutes after the first rush) and road a conservative pace as far as I could
see. Goat didn't pulse down tho....so the heat??)

 -

gate #1: 60th (25 minutes off the pace)
gate #2: 41st (37 minutes off the pace)
gate #3: 22nd (31 minutes off the pace)
gate #4: 10th (26 minutes off the pace)
finish: 7th (28 minutes off the pace)

the vet-in time (ArrivalTime - CriteriaTime) is of interest too.

#1: Abdulla Bilhab: #4 Terry Wood:
===================       ================
gate #1: 2:20             gate #1: 5:22
gate #2: 3:17             gate #2: 5:43
gate #3: 4:12             gate #3: 7:01
gate #4: 7:33             gate #4: 5:43

#7 Sh. Mohamed: #18 Jennifer Nice
==================       =================
gate #1: 1:16             gate #1: 2:11
gate #2: 1:11             gate #2: 3:51
gate #3: 1:59             gate #3: 3:23
gate #4: 2:45             gate #4: 3:16

#24 Karen Dicamillo #26 Cristy Janzen
==================        ===============
gate #1: 8:37             gate #1: 3:30
gate #2: 7:25             gate #2: 4:59
gate #3: 4:29             gate #3: 2:37
gate #4: 3:37             gate #4: 3:39
=========
<snip> One of the things that does surprise me is that most of the riders
who do go over there and participate say nothing but good things about the
Sheiks.
<snip>

I kept getting sand in my shoes...other than that, it was a pretty deluxe 3
week stay .... there were a few anomolies (like the #33 incedent:) but they
were by and large dealt with I think...
