Re: About Tom.. to Susan

Only because I'm getting some private comments about agreeing with "my" comments about Tom....the post remarking that Tom is a smart guy but not a god, etc etc, was made by Sue Brown, not me (easy mistake, being as vocal as I am).  I cant say I disagree with anything that Sue said (in fact, I agree wholeheartedly, especially about the parts about the biochemistry being different between flat track and endurance), but the credit belongs to Sue, not me.

Tom is indeed an extremely intelligent and innovative guy, with the energy and drive to match.  But in alot of private conversations, his knowledge is not all-encompassing and there are a lot of holes left to fill---which applies to *all* of us.  Tom is not an exception to the rule, he just travels to a different drummer than most (and yes, I would consider him a friend, though I might keep a silver bullet handy if I ever invited him in past my front door...)

Subject: RC: About Tom.. to Susan

Susan..
Your following paragraph made me laugh (but not at you.. I'm agreeing )
You're soooo right-on.. although *some* people think he's the devil.
And he IS a race track guy.
I also think the sport of endurance, is going to be divided into 2
groups (with or without Tom): racing and non-racing.... and they don't call racing the
"sport of kings" for nothin'!  ($$$)
These 80-100 mile races are Extreme Sport. Very different from
the past.

Tom Ivers is NOT God!  He's an brilliant innovator, an experimenter,
a wealth of knowledge - but he's a race track guy, not
an experienced endurance competitor.  Yes, we all learn
an INCREDIBLE amount from him, and I'm hooked on it too.
He's feeding us an incredible amount of knowledge of
sports physiology and we all lap it up like the "GOT MILK"
commercial.  But we have to take all of this knowledge
and translate it to the context of our sport. The
biochemistry is different for a flat track race vs. endurance.
