Re: fighting horses

We had a rash of young geldings for awhile that were always challenging each
other. We brought in an older mare and she 'cleaned horse house' <G>. - no
more problems.!

I've run my horses on pasture for almost fifteen years, in many different
combinations. I have found, in *most* instances, if you have a good
Alpha-B*tch running the show, you don't have too many other problems
regardless of the rest of the mix .... unless you might have the
misconception that you could be in charge of *her*.

also, there are many 'little things' that can make a lot of difference. At
feeding time, I grain them in the their correct order. Top mare eats first,
on down the line. If you elevate someone above their stations for an hour
twice a day, it causes confusion and conflict within the herd. -the higher
ranking horses that were feed down the line are likely to reinforce their
dominance on the hapless souls that were fed at the front of the line as
soon as they can get their teeth on them.
