I started wearing a helmet 2 years ago.  I never thought I
would put one on...I was the old school western rider :-)
Last summer I started riding with a group of 4 friends who
all kinda laughed at me when they first saw me strap on my
helmet.  I explained to them that it gave me a different
level of comfort on my horse.  If I went off, I didn't have
to worry about cracking my head open...just ribs, legs or
arms.  Needless to say, the next time we went riding 3 of
them had helmets.  Only 1 of the group refuses to ride with
one.   By the way, when I did fall off and crack my ribs, I
sure wasn't worried about my head.  I've went on trailrides
where I'm the only one there with a helmet on....sure I get
some strange looks.
