Most western states require brand inspections at all public sales, auctions,
slaughterhouses, etc. Some states require all animals to be branded
(although perhaps with exception of Louisiana, not fully enforced). Actually
Louisiana as part of EIA control requires each horse to be uniquely
identified (ranch brands are insufficient) either by brand, tattoo, or
