Grand Canyon XP

This is my first year of real competition.  My gelding (Indian Paleface or "Indy") and I have completed 450 miles since April 1 including three of Dave Nicholson's XP rides.  I only got to ride one day at Mt. Carmel and one day at Bryce Canyon and finally this last weekend I got to finish my first XP doing all three days.  This was quite an accomplishment for Indy and I.  We only came in in the middle of the pack but I was so proud of Indy and his willingness to finish.  The last 20 miles seemed at least 100 miles but we were both getting very tired.  The views were spectacular.  Dave and Ann's XP rides are the best!

Unfortunately, my two friends and I were the first to find Kat on the first day.  She rode with us for a while and then decided to lope off and we found her soon after on the trail.  There were others right behind us.  The whole thing was awful and I can't say how glad I am that she is going to be okay, she definitly did not look okay when we came up on her.  She was not wearing a helmet but as has been mentioned it probably wouldn't have helped her anyway.  My prayers are with her for a speedy recovery and I was glad we were able to catch her horse and that it is not still running around out there  Endurance people are great. . .crazy but great.
