RE: change of subject

I see from the responses to Steph's E-mail that people are wondering about
separate briefings for LD riders. I refer them to the AERC Rules and
Regulations rule 1.4.6 which states "Limited Distance competitors must be
offered a separate and specific briefing on the special features and
requirements of Limited Distance Rides".

So, if the ride manager is not offering this briefing to the LD riders they
are in conflict with the AERC Rules and it is important you bring this to
their attention. Adherence to the Rules and Regulations of the AERC is very
important to the welfare of the sport, our organization and our horses.

Posting DNF in the ride results?
By all means. This data is very important to all members and to our data
base. However, if it is done in a haphazard manner it is worthless. This
data is just as important as the finish order and the times of each rider.
Ride Managers please be diligent in this.

Limited Distance - leave it the way it is?
We really need a nation wide poll on this.

Should AERC accept non-US memberships? We already include
Canada, what about other countries? Can we increase our
strength world-wide by horizontal growth?
We should accept memberships from the entire world of endurance riding.
There is no reason not to do this. It does not impinge on any one and can be
very beneficial to our organization. Ideas and concepts from other nations
can serve to strengthen us.

How can we better educate our own riders, rider managers and vets?
First we must make the Education Committee an active one. This committee
should then assemble various concepts on the furtherance of endurance
knowledge. These concepts could include the net, local seminars, national
seminars, mentoring programs, ad infinitum. It will take a very devoted
committee chair and committee but can be done.

International - take Endurance to the Olympics, keep it at home? What
should AERC's role be?
This subject could be a very lengthy one. At this time I have not been
inspired to investigate all the ramifications of such an action and I am
sure that very few members of the AERC have done so. This must be
investigated and processed through our National Organization the AHSA. It is
something that will be very time consuming and costly. I do not think the
AERC is yet in a position to do so.

Training cats using round-pen techniques?
Being the owner of not just cats, but Siamese cats, let me say this action
will be much easier than the one concerned with the Olympics. The trick is
to not let the cats know that they are being trained.

Other ideas?
Yes many of them. But of them all, at this time, I would suggest that all
Ride Campers take very seriously the up coming elections for our at-large
directors. I implore each and every one of you to consider each candidate
for these positions. The fact that one of them could be the next AERC
President. The fact that these electees will be influential in how the AERC
conducts its business. and the fact that these electees will be representing
the total membership, not just those in a particular region. GET OUT THERE
AND VOTE!

Bob Morris
Candidate for Director-at-Large
AERC #868

Rather than further discussing toddlers doing endurance
(amazingly hot topic!) let's change the subject. Maybe
something safer like, um, religion? politics? limited distance?
I actually thought the helmet debate would take off for a
moment... and was almost welcoming the diversion.

The AERC midyear board meeting is coming up in a couple
weeks. There will be lots on the agenda. Plus elections for
directors at large. Any burning AERC issues to discuss?
