My daughter, Jennifer, has been riding a horse since she was three. But I
didn't start taking her out on the trails with me until she was 7. She
started doing endurance at 9. I found out she couldn't stop a runaway horse
at the start of the Million Pines ride last year when we decided to start
with the front runners in a 25. Scared the heck out of me and we reviewed
different ways to fix that problem later that day.
Rebel has always been a great horse for Jennifer cause he normally won't pass
me and Dance Line and even though it's not a great trait for an endurance
horse, I love it when Jen rides him. I don't think she's been thrown from a
horse since she was 5 or so.
Monday morning parenting isn't really necessary here is it? Sounds like the
kid is doing pretty well to me. Just put a helmet on him and make sure he's
atleast 8 before you hit that endurance trail. And you might want to wait a
couple minutes after the start just to be safe. Riding with your kid will be
the best experience you ever have if you do it right. And watch out for that
tree!
