Give me a break! Our high school football games have an ambulance parked
by the field. As a ride manager, I have an overall picture in my mind of
where the trail is, how that ties into the nearest roads, etc. All the
rider has is a mental image of the TRAIL. They don't know where the heck
they are. As a rider I'd have to start back at the start of the race and
ride 60 miles to find where the heck the horse went off. The first thing
I'd do if someone had trouble at our ride is yell "Russel!" He's the guy
who knows our mountain best. Surely there's somebody out there they feel
that way about. Doesn't have to be a rescue squad, just somebody who
knows the terrain, and the locals and knows who and where to go for help.
