Practical Horse Sex--Ovulation Tests

Linda B. Merims lbm@ici.net

Has anybody been successful using the human ovulation predictor
tests (readily available in drug stores) to detect ovulation
in mares? Or unsuccessful using them, for that matter.

FYI--these tests detect the surge in lutenizing hormone that
triggers ovulation in both humans and equines. The issues
I am struggling with are 1)whether LH is chemically similar
*enough* and 2)whether the quantity released is similar enough
between species to react with the detection chemical in the
test.
