Truman Alert and Breakover

Ray O'Donohue rno2m@virginia.edu
We try to have fast breakovers, particularly rear, for my 13 year old Foxtrotter, and they have helped him a great deal.He is a Field Trial horse with many hard miles on him,and I hope, even more ahead of him.At the rear,he is somewhat hock-narrow and towed out, wears the outboard side of each rear shoe slightly faster, and most importantly,I suspect,he rotates the shoe between stepping down and breaking over,or,perhaps puts it down and breaks it over in the same path, but this path is not parralell to his body.My farrier wants to square the toe,in the middle of the toe,to facilitate our fast breakover, and "Force him to breakover straight".I fear this may cause him to have to breakover a corner point of this square.I don't like the idea of trying to shoe him into changing his way of going. This is a slab-sided,high withered ,old pro, with thousands of fast field trial miles on him,and he pretty much is what he is at this point in his carrer.Comments?
