On our recent 100 km chaos in Cairo, we had volunteer course stewards from
the locals to help out the imported FEI stewards. You are required to have
them at FEI rides. Nevertheless, it did not stop interesting occurrences
although it did mean that a few were actually witnessed by someone. And a
lot of course stewards got some really great tans. At our qualifying rides,
I think we will try to come up with some system, even if it is a buddy
system or something. The other thing is that we ARE riding in a very barren
desert area, not so far from human contact, but far enough, to make keeping
track of people a good idea.
