Yes, I do think Howard was riding his own ride.  When you
ride your own ride you make the decisions for your horse.
Should you make informed decisions based on conditioning,
trailering, eating and other variable factors, you are
riding your own ride.  If you chose to keep up with someone
else whose horse is better conditioned or didn't travel as
far, you are also riding your own ride.  You've made that
decision...no one else made it for you.  And yes people make
the DECISION to override their horses.  Everytime they
decide to keep up with the other rider who is better
conditioned, they make the decision to override their
horse.  This is called being an adult and able to make
rational decisions.  Take responsibility for your own
decisions - own up to them.
