I would carefully research the risks to the mare involved with this 
procedure.  A good friend had her mare die during this procedure.  I'm sure 
that anybody could site an example of risk with pretty much any procedure, 
but with this personal experience in mind, I'd be very wary of "spaying" a 
mare.  (JME)
