RE: RE: eye ointments

Another web-search and viola! It's even from a
South African index! I'm pretty sure that it's
the same tube that treats humans, dogs, pigs, cats,
and horses! Yes, it takes a looooong time to heal.
Don't give up medicating 3-4x a day until you see
some improvement. Yes, it is tedious and worrisome.
I'm with you on all that. I would wake up in the
middle of the night, go through all my veterinary
books and imagine all the worst case stuff. There
is plenty of worst case pictures to feed anyone's
nightmares! Just keep with it. After a couple
of weeks, the vet came out and "debrided" the
eye and then suggested that I call the veterinary
eye specialist out if I didn't see any improvement.
I just kept on medicating and to that vet's surprise,
it did heal to an almost unnoticeable grey-blue
"ding" in his eye. I never did call the expert.
Based on my experience, I'm not
too surprised that you aren't seeing improvement
right away. How long has he had this ulcer?

Is this the same guy that tweaked his back? If it
is, he sounds like my Beau (who kept on injuring
himself so I couldn't sell him!).

The vet gave me this tube at first, then followed
up with the triple antibiotic that I can't remember
all the details for and it's in my horse trailer
20 miles away from work.

TERRAMYCIN Ophthalmic Ointment

Pfizer
        5 mg/g Oxytetracycline
        10000 u/g Polymyxin B Sulphate

Hi Kathy

My youngster has a corneal ulcer and he is not responding to the treatment
my vet advised (a self proclaimed non horsey vet :-)), what did you use?

Celeste (South Africa)
Mawlud and Shadixx

PS. Please use ingredient names as well as I may not be able to get the same
brand name.
