This is one for the lawyers.  What I'd do is play nice but firm with the
person claiming they're owed the horse - get the information on who they
are, how to contact them, etc.  This pins them down in case they do
something stupid like steal the horse (which would be illegal, even if
they're subsequently found to be owed the horse).

Its possible they do have a legal claim on the person who sold you the
horse - ask them if they have anything in writing to back up their claim.
Better yet, get your lawyer to talk to them AND the people who sold you the
horse.  Once a lawyer told me how many legs who had to stand on, I'd feel
better about the whole thing.
