RD shoe ?

We went through my snow shoe set up last month, but I have another question. 
I love these Mustad no-snow pads & just ordered more & the duratrac nails.
(there's an ad 3rd page in left side Equus Mag. if anyones curious) My
question-Would these nails be good/bad at other times of the year or in other
types of terrain requiring traction?  Also, would the pads help with
concussion and/or with protection from bruising in different weather or
terrain?  Your thoughts please...
