Going girthless

    There is a story about Lynn Salvatori Palm riding a horse in a World
Championship (3 year-old hunter under saddle in 1978, I believe) with the
girth swinging because someone had sored the horse, Lecanto Raider, with
turpentine and other nasty things behind his front legs.  He won anyway.
