I think Tammy is right on the mark.  I'll agree that you won't help
arthritis by soaking your elbow in a bowl of milk, but putting an enterolith
into a jar of vinegar *is* a reasonably effective test.  Vinegar is just a
very weak solution of acetic acid, and it's the hydrogen concentration that
will affect pH and therefore whether or not it will dissolve anything.
Vinegar's constituents aren't really changed as they go through the
digestive tract, as when they're in *any* sort of aqueous solution
(inlcuding in either a jar or a horse's gut), the H+ ions are in a fairly
dynamic state.  It's just that in a horse's gut, the amount of aqueous
solution is much greater, so the effect of vinegar on the pH is that much
weaker.

I agree with Tammy, using diet to dissolve stones is alot more effective
than vinegar.  (And Tammy, I use an enterolith in vinegar as an example to
my applied nutrition students---mine doesn't dissolve, either).:-)
