40 pds. hay, wow! Then you must have some extraordinary easy-keeping horses. I
will be happy if Ligeira will eat the half (in her 7th competitive season). All
too often she eats quite no hay, before a ride, even I always have the finest
quality of hay whatsoever. ...Eh, she eats up everything - but afterwards.

If this is the general answer, then endurance starting-fields will become empty
soon. I once heard in Endurance you can bring in the horse you have and can
compete with -- if it's sound, fast, intelligent, loves the trail, loves his
rider, is competitive, comfortable to ride, well-mannered, noble, nice,... must
eating 40 pds. before a ride was not mentioned.
