Re: RC: saddle search
Dry spots under the saddle are either caused by an absence of pressure (that
is, lack of contact between the horse and saddle) or by an excess of
pressure. With an english saddle, typically dry spots behind the wither are
caused by excess pressure. While the pressure can be the result of a tree
that is too narrow for the horse, it can also be pressure of the stirrup bar.
A saddle pad can sometimes help, but first you need to know for certain
whether the spots are excessive pressure or lack or pressure, so that you
will know how to pad your horse. A well-fitting saddle is a better idea, if
that's within your budget.
Good luck,
Carmi
