we talk a lot about rocks, but actually rocky trails are not the worst,
IME.  the worst has to be a hard-packed gravel road where the 1+" stone
floats to the top.  then the stones sit there without compressing into
the soil when stepped on.  you gotta have some serious cup-feet for a
horse not to bruise on those roads.
