There are rocks and then there are ROCKS

Some years my horses are padded (fronts only) and some
years they are not. It depends on what the
highway department is using to repair the
dirt roads I ride on. Last year they dumped
1" machine crushed rock on the dirt roads... wicked sharp. No hooves alive could
travel over this stuff and not bruise
without pads.
Also.. some of our trails are really just dried up
stream beds with mega loose multi-sized
rocks.

Whether to pad or not depends on what
your riding surface is.
