Hi Jim,
The one thing that I would do if building a new barn is design the
interior so that the horses can see one another.  Many new barns have
stalls that are built like solitary confinment prison cells. Most horses
are much more relaxed if they can see other horses, and also see what is
going on in the barn. Just my opinion.
