Linda--Good point!  I'll be grateful now that it was only the stirrup and not the knees hitting trees, except hitting the stirrup on a tree does tweek the knee a bit.
 
My latest horse is a tank and the one I've ridden for so many years is lean and mean and also very catty.  He keeps me away from  the trees and brush.  Just spoiled I guess.
