girth problems

Hi-
I just got a used DeSoto saddle and love it. used it on 2 50's and had no
problems. Last weekend we did a 100 at Liberty Run and at the 50 mile
check Shameless was sensitive in the girth area. no marks or rubs. the
girth is thick felt. at 65 miles changed to new felt girth and put
vasilene on whole girth area. he didnt get worse but sensitivity was still
there. same next morning. by now he isnt sore but the skin looks like its
flaking off everywhere the girth touched.
kinda little black scaly pieces of skin that rub off and skin underneath
looks fine.
I wash these girths before every ride w/ mild soap and double rinse.
at the vet checks couldnt see anything on the girth- and rinsed them off
before putting saddle on again.

I've tried calling Marilyn but she must be away this week.
Does anyone know if there is any other type of girth that would fit this
saddle? or any advise?
thanks-
Anita Carlson
