I agree.  The whole thing needs to be in careful context.  My oldest horse,
Suni, was ridden at a walk when he was two.  Unfortunately, the rider was a
very large man who was not a very experienced rider and not very balanced.
As a result, when I got Sun at five, he was still having trouble believing
he could balance himself with a rider.  He got over it, of course, and
became a very balanced, sure-footed athletic horse, but, personally, I would
leave early starts to people who are light weight and EXCELLENT riders.  I
think Equus was started very early and Bobbie describes how careful they
were.
