Re: green horses/wet saddle blankets

<< "wet saddle blankets" >>

This could be a dumb question, but could someone please enlighten me as to
what this means!!!

Katie:  "wet saddle blankets" is an old saying. It means that a green horse needs to be ridden a lot and exposed to the many, many things that come across his way while under saddle.  If you ride your green horse as much as the trainer/breaker recommends, your saddle blankets will be wet with sweat whenever you return to the barn.
Again, I agree with Teddy Lancaster that if a horse does not respect you on the ground, he won't respect you in the saddle.  Young, green horses need lots of saddle time, and learning ground manners as well, especially if you plan to compete in endurance or CTR.
