That is great advice.  It finally occurred to me (I'm embarassed it took me 
so long) that you can ask when you pull into camp on Friday WHERE the start 
is.  Then, park at the OTHER END of camp.  Which is just what I did at the 
last ride. I couldn't believe the difference that makes in a green horse's 
little mind.  Also, even at CTRs you don't have to line up and mill around 
near the starting line.  You can circle and keep an eye on the progress of 
departures, then ride out toward the back of the pack where things are 
usually (not always) a little quieter and you can sometimes find a window 
where you aren't chasing other horses all day.  I think people get caught up 
in the competition and forget that the worst thing the judges can do to you 
at a CTR is dock points.  If you're schooling a young horse, you need to keep 
the priorities in mind -- ending up with a good trail horse. Oh yeah, and 
being safe!
