Re: RC: Re: Breeding theories (was *Muscat)

Gesa wrote "A stallion that is worked fairly hard on a regular basis

the stallions well exercised"

When we first started breeding, we were told not to ride Nas endurance,
because it would cause him to become temporarily sterile. Something
about his body heat going up and killing off the sperm. Well, we rode
him anyway, because we figured if all those feral horses & burros were
overpopulating the planet even though they were being run around by
helicopters & such, then the stallions couldn't be all that affected by
work.

Well, not exactly scientific reasoning, but Nas was very fertile in his
breeding days even when racing, and the only mares he failed to
impregnate were ones that had problems of their own. Quantity of sperm
isn't all that counts anyway - all it takes is one really strong,
determined little guy! Lif
