Re: Kickers and Training

I am new to this. I race Arabian Horses in Texas, California and Delaware
and am now beginning to train some of our retired racers for Endurance... I
just subscribed to "ridecamp" and am finding the continuing "dialogue"
fascinating- particularly regarding kicking and vet check issues. Could you
please describe the "chain that is draped loosely over the horses nose". Is
this a shank chain? How is it attached and used? thanks.Claudia Spears

My mare can get quite hyper - especially at vet in with a lot of horses
standing around. She probably won't kick, but she will dance around and
be a big pain. She has had all types of ground work, but is excitable.
Know what - she has a chain drapped loosely over her nose. That keeps
her calm and the vets, vols, other riders and other horses (and myself)
safe.

She is my responsibility and I take it seriously.
