Re: How many of you started riding after age 40?

Hi Ed

I started riding for the first time in May '97 at age 66.
I bought a green-broke Arab gelding two months
later. We did our first horse show yesterday with
six ribbons for eight classes (every color except
blue). The saddle that was perfect two years ago
now fits poorly, so we quit four classes short of
what we planned, but had fun!! Hope to get a new
saddle next weekend.

The best was our two second place ribbons for
driving (only six weeks after we started)!!

The only negative I see in starting so late, is that
I wonder if people think I have been riding for sixty
years and expect that I should have gotten better
by now <g>!

We have enjoyed the Competitive Trail Riding (25
miles) and have some second and third place ribbons.

As I see it, the competitions are a motivation for more
training and conditioning.
