You "round" a horse with the appropriate action of the seat and legs, driving
his rear end underneath him. What you have "on his face" shouldn't make a
big difference provided you use it correctly. Can't imagine horses more
properly rounded than the old Californio style bosal horses...

fear of rearing horses....I'm concernd about strong curb action.......I
realize the rider has some imput here but how do you bring the horse
back down if your strongest force is on the curb instead of the poll? >>

Admittedly have not had much problem with rearing, I think mostly because
I've been able to anticipate the problem and get the energy directed
elsewhere before it happens. Even so, no matter WHAT sort of bit you use,
you are more apt to CAUSE the horse to rear by imagining the bit to be the
strongest force and using it accordingly, because the horse may well rear to
evade the pain! Unless you are using a war bridle, the poll pressure is not
a significant factor.

Remember, you ride with your seat and legs, and the bit (or hackamore) merely
DIRECTS that force.
