RE: Re: Tying inside the trailer

I also tie in trailers, (haven't used owned a stock type trailer) and I also
use bungee type ties. I quit using nylon ties when one of my past horses
spooked and sat down in a trailer (I was following in a car and saw what
happened). His neck was jerked badly when he went down then he leaped up and
forward violently and went over the breast bar. The truck driver and I had
to lift him back across the bar. He had a great deal of soreness in his neck
and shoulders from the jerk he got as he went down. So I switched to stretch
ties. Then another time I loaded him into my new Trailet 2-horse straight
load then got yakking with someone before I got him hooked up. When I
stepped into the front of the trailer I found him completely wedged in with
his head turned around to the rear. The divider has a section up by the
horses shoulders that goes up to the ceiling to prevent horses from reaching
across and biting. This basicly became a wall and he was so broad that he
became stuck. We had to disasemble the divider. If this had happened while
going down the road he could have been stuck in this weird postion for
miles. Of course, there was the time that I let the butt bar down for him to
back out and forgot to unclip him. He backed till his front feet were on the
ramp then stopped. The rubber tie stretched that far and luckily didn't
break. Duuuuuuhhhh!
