horses eating lime (deficient?)

I spilled some lime about two months ago when I was
prepping my lawn. The horses were out on the lawn yest. (a
treat as we have no pasture right now) and I looked out to
see both horses pawing the grass of the spot where I had
spilled, and eating the dirt. It is the exact spot where
the lime was, and I could see a little of the white powder
in the dirt they were eating. (It is the granular type, for
sweetening lawns, we have very acidic soil.)

What are they trying to tell me?
